*SCARY TERRI (2010 intro registered in 2009) 31" M 7" SEV TET EMO Hurray! This frequently quilling, often pinching, sometimes twisting, and rarely poly(ing?) rich rose red Variable Crispate Unusual Form with a yellow to green throat survived it's first winter in zone 4 Iowa. Never mulched here, it ignored the frigid, snowless winter of 2005/06 the year it was moved from Niagara Falls to Burt. I'd still mulch it for its first winter anywhere colder than zone 6 just to be on the safe side because you never know what new horrors lurk in the weather files. Pod and pollen fertile with 2 branches and 18 buds, it makes average sized fans. Named for Terri Jones, the intrepid woman who, all the way from Florida, not only got me interested in growing daylilies but in hybridizing them as well. That explains the "TERRI" half of the name, but what about the "SCARY," you ask. Well, if you're on the AHS email robin and have ever dared to use the term "lily" to refer to "daylily," you know the answer. If you're not on the robin, the fact that Halloween is the favorite holiday for Terri and her family is another, albeit paler, explanation. (MORTICIA X RED SUSPENDERS).
